Characteristics
Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb.
autumn olive
Cultivated and invasive. Prefers open sites including successional fields, pastures, hedge rows, utility rights-of-way, thickets, and edges of forests. It also occurs in successional forests. Sometimes it dies back in open sites and perhaps what ever is causing this, is helping to limit the extent of this species in New York.
