Mesic forests, ledges and rock outcrops, edge of paths and dirt roads through forests, roadsides, and disturbed sites. Does particularly well in high pH sites. Sometimes it can occur in large relatively dense patches but the plants are thin and therefore this introduced species usually does not appear to be an aggressive invader.
