Saturated or inundated fine grained soils in non-shaded habitats such as pond and stream edges. Also on wet roads, floating logs in ponds, and disturbed wet soils. It does best without much adjacent dense and tall herbaceous vegetation as in soils that are exposed when water levels become lower.
