Characteristics
Viburnum dentatum L. var. lucidum Aiton
smooth arrowwood
Shrub swamps including rich fens, marshes, forested swamps, wet to mesic successional shrublands, thickets, occasional in mesic deciduous understories, and roadsides. Grows in a large variety of wet to dry habitats. Lately the non-native viburnum leaf beetle (Pyrrhalta viburni) has been completely defoliating this and a few other Viburnum species in parts of New York. It appears that this species might suffer a huge decline.
